On June 27, 2023, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine held a meeting with the Ambassadors and Heads of Diplomatic Missions of the G7 countries.
The Chairman of the HQCJ Roman Ihnatov greeted the participants and expressed his gratitude for supporting Ukraine during the unprecedented aggression of the russian federation against our country.
The Chairman of the Commission emphasized that the primary task of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine is to review the written assignments of 368 candidates for the position of a judge, which is currently underway and will be completed shortly.
As part of the preparation for the establishment of the Public Integrity Council pursuant to Article 87 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Judiciary and the Status of Judges”, it is planned to publish an announcement of convening a meeting of representatives of public associations in early July 2023.
Soon, the Commission plans to continue the qualification evaluation of
1,954 judges for whom it has not been completed.
With regard to the selection of new judges for vacant positions, the Commission, in cooperation with the High Council of Justice and the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine, should jointly determine the number of vacancies to be approved for priority filling, taking into account the current situation in the country.
The Deputy Chairman of the Commission Ruslan Sydorovych thanked the guests for highlighting the common position of the G7 governments and expressed hope that the joint communication of the Commission with representatives of the G7 countries would form the same coalition of support for legal reform that Ukraine already has in its armed confrontation with the aggressor country. He also emphasized that Ukraine currently spends the bulk of its budgetary resources on its defense capabilities. And it is necessary to have considerable resources to solve the problems facing the Commission. He expressed hope that, despite the difficult financial situation in the country, the Commission will eventually be able to find the level of support it needs, which will help improve the technical condition of its equipment that will affect information security, sustainability of processes, efficiency, and quality of the relevant steps.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Mr. Matsuda Kuninori noted that the election and formation of the new Commission coincided with the time when the G7 countries and the Ukrainian authorities are actively discussing ways to assist Ukraine in post-war reconstruction, which will largely involve private investors.
The Deputy Chairman of the Commission Ruslan Sydorovych emphasized the importance of cooperation and support of international partners for both the HQCJ and the future PIC.
The participants of the meeting thanked each other for the dialog and agreed on further cooperation.
